Book Review

Alfie Bloom and the secrets of hexbridge castle
By Gabrielle Kent
Book review – by Toby Benison
Alfie Bloom is the main character in this story, he is eleven years old.  He thought he had a very ordinary life, except for his inventing father, until a letter came for a talk with his lawyer, a mysterious shape shifter, about his inheritance of Hexbridge castle.  Which had not been opened for hundreds of years.  A short time later he shifted into his castle, which turns out to be magical, and his life dramatically changed.  While exploring his castle, up in the south tower, Alfie and his cousin’s find a flying, talking bearskin rug, named Artan.  Alife has a connection with Orin Hopcraft from the day of his birth, which was 600 years ago.  Orin Hopcraft is a powerful Druid who talks to Alfie through letters.  Alfie has also inherited an ancient form of magic from Orin.  He meets a mysterious flying creature that seems to be stealing the villager’s animals … read this exciting book to find out what happens next.

This is a fantasy book for medium readers.  I would give it 7/10.  I liked finding out about the flying creature the best.
