Trains on the main line

Trains on the main line.

This is a DXB Kiwirail train. Its number is 8022 and 5143 in Christchurch doing a freight job. It is on its way to Arthurs Pass. It has two types of freight. One is fuel and the other is containers.  DX’s have nupple couples because the coal carriages have them. The DX’s are new to the South Island and Christchurch.

This is a DXC class train 5206 and 5419 doing coal near Kaikoura. DX’s have nupple couples because the coal carriage’s have them. Most trains have two engines. For the otira tunnel they have two - four bankers. At the Rolleston 150th two DXCs helped Ja 1240 and Ka942 there.

This is the breakdown train fixing the track.  It has a front locomotive with tools and a place for workers. On the back there is a crane and an empty carriage for workmen. The number is ETM 513. This is not a train that they use for everyday for jobs like freight and trainz alpine.

This is my Favorite type of train. It is a DSG, the number is 3114. DSG’s are two ended shunters. They work in yards shunting loads, mainly freight.  Kiwirail is the most common train company in New Zealand.
